Nails
He was the one sharp bitten, bruised and nailed
The Lord of heaven while the kingdoms railed
His back by hate laid low
I saw him approach slow
With many beatings dealt
In blood and grime beheld
His crown, a jagged crown
All trace of glory shorn
Laid bare before all eyes
His garments cast aside
Upon that wooden tree
His nakedness to see
My hammer was hard
Singing like a bard
This death was mine
As tight as twine
I pinned the nail
Fixed as braille
That soft mail
Soul's jail
Him
And
I
He was the one sharp bitten, bruised and nailed
The Lord of earth by hell's fell hands assailed
The spike was meant for me
And I could not concede
My guilt, it took me down
I had no wedding gown
Not heeding heaven's sigh
I built my doorway high
Walking by many roads
Bearing uncounted loads
I scorned the herald's cry
Taking what I can buy
My hammer was strong
I knew I was wrong
This death was mine
The taste like brine
A nail through skin
Sharp and thin
As frail as sin
It sunk in
Him
And
I
Jesus, the one sharp bitten, bruised and nailed
The Lord of mine by my own hands impaled
His eyes with tears were dim
Held up to heaven's rim
His mercy and his grace
The kindness of his gaze
And there I saw my heart
My shame in every part
He won a perfect peace
My fingers held the tree
My Saviour, my Christ
His blood was the price
The truth was all love
He is always enough
His death is mine
His life like wine
Mind and soul
My only goal
Let this coal
Burn whole
Him
And
I
